Nursing Students' Association 
Breakthrough to Nursing


This committee focuses on exposing youth in San Diego to the field of nursing. Along with outreach, this committee focuses on the mentorship of our own SDCC nursing students. We love diversity and hope to have a Breakthrough Committee that reflects all different cultures, races, sexes, etc.

Responsibilities: 

  • Promoting and pairing students in the Mentor-Mentee program.
  • Organizing outreach events to increase the number of minorities interested in the nursing field.
  • Promoting a positive image of nursing.
  • Creating and maintaining networks with surrounding schools for future presentations, outreach events, etc.

Community Health


With community service being such a huge part of the nursing field, it is important that the SDCC NSA have a vibrant community health committee. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Organizing and promoting community health events.
  • Creating and maintaining networks with hospitals, organizations, foundations, individuals, etc for outreach events.
  • Organizing a minimum of one event in alignment with a CNSA Monthly Toolkit to support CNSA annual service goals.
  • Applying for the annual CNSA Community Health Award

Membership


The membership committee helps SDCC NSA continue its success through spreading the word about membership benefits.

Responsibilities:

  • Presenting about SDCC NSA organization benefits to incoming cohorts.
  • Encouraging involvement and tracking attendance in membership meetings, community events, etc.
  • Hosting a minimum of 2 (or otherwise voted upon number) of fellowship events annually.
  • Working with other committees to agree upon cord-points awarded for each hosted event.

Fundraising


Our fundraising committee is full of ideas for ways to raise money to support student success. This includes funding conference attendance, student passion projects and parties! If you have ideas about ways to raise for SDCC NSA please consider becoming a committee member.

Responsibilities:

  • Working with vendors who are willing to donate funds and/or food.
  • Maintaining and promoting all items for sale in student store.
  • Organizing and hosting various fundraising events throughout the year.

Communications


This committee is a key liaison between the SDCC NSA and the rest of the student body, staff and alumni. Responsibilities include:

  • Keeping all website material and social media accounts up-to-date.
  • Composing and distributing a quarterly newsletter with information about past and upcoming events, accomplishments, awards or other relevant material.
    Compiling a historical record (pictures) of student and community involvement in SDCC NSA.
  • Updating the nursing floor events calendar
  • Advertising upcoming projects
  • Providing student body with information about upcoming scholarships, externships, etc.

Legislative


The legislative committee is responsible for bringing new resolutions to the conventions of CNSA and NSNA. Responsibilities include:

  • Researching issues that effect nursing, nursing education, health care and patient outcomes.
  • Drafting legislative resolutions per the guidelines of NSNA.
  • Presenting resolutions at professional conferences and educating attendees about the importance of resolutions.
  • Keeping membership informed about important legislative issues and changes in nursing

Cultural Awareness


 This committee strives to help the SDCC NSA and the students we serve better understand and appreciate the diverse, culturally rich perspectives of both the SDCC community and the San Diego community as a whole in order to help reduce culture-related health care disparities.

  • Working with established groups within the San Diego community to provide accessible educational content.
  • Composing articles for The NSA Cityscape in order to bring awareness to various cultural norms and unique healthcare issues or disparities affecting different cultural groups.
  • Advocating for increased education, cultural awareness and humility within the SDCC nursing program.
  • Organizing events to celebrate various holidays or events unique to cultural groups within SDCC or the San Diego community.
